I’ve taken the Profile…So what’s next?!
The Basadur Profile, which is scientifically constructed, accurately measures a person’s style of thinking and problem solving. The Profile is a cognitive instrument and completely independent of personality, so its results are easily accepted nonjudgmentally and enjoyably by users as they learn about themselves. Many users ask, what’s next?
Importantly, there is a larger opportunity available for everybody. Actually, the 4 styles of the Profile are the gateway to understanding the 4 stages of the creative problem solving process. The Profile guides people to intuitively understand the connection to the creative problem solving process. Our research has shown that many people have difficulty understanding creative problem solving, or any thinking, as a process. They often think that creativity is a bolt from the blue, when in fact it’s a discipline that needs to be learned.
In every job, there are a lot of processes that must be mastered and creativity is no exception especially if a person wants to move ahead and stand out above the rest. Once you’ve taken the Profile, you can segway to the 4-stage process of creative problem solving:
- Seek out new problems (opportunities and possibilities) – Generator Style
- Define the problem innovatively with fresh insights and ideas – Conceptualizer Style
- Evaluate ideas and develop a concrete solution – Optimizer Style
- Take action, get results; find a way to make the new solution work – Implementer Style
A large health services organization was seeking to provide better services to its community. 300 leaders took the Profile and learned a lot about themselves, their teams, and how they worked together. Senior leadership wanted the leaders to begin pursuing the 10-year goal to fulfill their vision of building a healthier community by finding ways to improve the way services were provided to the community. Their next step was to provide everyone with training to see the connection between the Profile and the 4 stage creative problem solving process. They had a simple, structured process to follow that enabled them to proactively find valuable problems and engage the community in solving them.
MinSight: Once the Profile has been taken, participants can then be guided to recognize the four styles as being identical to the four stages of the creative problem solving process. Leaders can use the connection to engage employees in applying the process to real world problems of their own, team, and organization. It’s a simple way to get people to cross the bridge and understand the concept of a process when it comes to creative thinking and problem solving. This is a hard concept for everybody, but well worth the investment to get the return in innovative results.
